Cameras might not be for everyone, but phones definitely are! So if you are one of those people that love to stand in front or behind a camera, and for any reason don’t want to own a real one, because it is too big, too expensive or just too complicated to use, well, this is a post that can be interesting and helpful for you. In a few steps I will make you a pro with your phone camera, and help you get amazing portraits that will resemble professional ones. Stick with me!
Portrait Mode
Many of the newest phones have this option of a portrait mode. It not only sounds like something you would want to try, but it actually is very useful while shooting. Why? It blurs out the background and makes you, or the subject you are trying to photograph, the most relevant thing in your picture.
Exposure
Another thing that might sound easy, but is mostly overlooked, is adjusting the exposure. Your phone is usually set to take way too bright photos. This is harder to adjust while editing. So always bring your exposure down while shooting. Your photos will have a more dramatic look and will be way easier to edit afterwards.
Angles
Have you ever gotten a photo taken by your mom, or even grandma? This one shot, taken ten times, from the front, looking exactly like the 99 others? Don’t be like them. To find your best side you need to try different angles. Always move your phone up and down, closer and further away, to find your best side. Trust me, this can make a huge difference on the outcome

Editing
Now you got your photos and you are ready to post them on social media, so everyone can see. But wait! We are not done yet. The most important part after shooting your photos is editing them. This can be stressful for some people, but here you need to trust me again, it will pop your photos and make them look much more special! Get yourself a good editing app like Lightroom, and start moving around those light and color bars. While working with phones that have a lower image quality, it helps to use black & white edits, but also to add some grain. This helps to hide imperfections and quality issues.
And there it is! I recommend you to get used to these five steps over time, and you will see a huge difference in your outcome, making everyone wonder how on earth you managed to get those results with just a phone.
